Skills Assessment authority for Civil Engineering Technician is Vocational Education & Training Assessment (VETASSESS). To have a positive skills assessment conducted, you must meet the following criteria:

• Qualification assessed at AQF Diploma level WITH a highly relevant field of study AND at least one year of post-qualification highly relevant employment at an appropriate skill level in the past five years;

OR

• Qualification assessed at AQF Diploma level WITH an additional qualification at AQF Certificate IV in a highly relevant field of study AND at least one year of post-qualification highly relevant employment at an appropriate skill level in the past five years

OR

• Qualification assessed at AQF Diploma WITHOUT a highly relevant field of study AND at least two years of post-qualification highly relevant employment at an appropriate skill level in the past five years
• Applicants must meet both the qualification and employment requirements to obtain a positive skills assessment
• Highly relevant fields of study include:
  • Civil Engineering
  • Engineering Drafting – Civil Design

Did you know?

According to VETASSESS, some qualifications that consists of mathematical and physical science subjects and demonstrate competency in structures, materials and testing may be acceptable for skills assessment for some engineering fields. However, it should be noted that this is considered on a case-by-case basis if the course consists of sufficient subjects relating to the occupation of Statistician.

Description

Assist in civil engineering research, design, construction, operations and maintenance.

Tasks

• Preparing sketches, charts, tabulations, plans and designs for civil engineering works such as drainage, water supply, sewerage reticulation systems, roads, airports, dams, bridges and other structures
• Performing and directing fieldwork and laboratory testing
• Interpreting work assignment instructions, applying appropriate procedures and selecting equipment
• Collecting and analysing data, and carrying out computations
• Estimating material costs and ensuring finished works are within specifications, regulations and contract provisions
• Inspecting civil engineering works, and organising and supervising maintenance and repair work
• Conducting field and laboratory tests of construction materials and soils, and collecting data for traffic surveys

  • AQF Associate Degree; or
