About the migration review fee
The Administrative Review Tribunal (ART) replaced the Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT) on 14 October 2024. The migration review fee of $3,727 applies to any fee paid on or after 1 July 2026, even if the review application was lodged earlier. Fees are indexed every year on 1 July.
- When to pay: the fee must be paid, or a fee reduction requested, before the deadline to apply for review. If the fee is not paid in time, the application is not valid and the ART cannot review your decision.
- Financial hardship: the fee can be reduced by 50% (to $1,863.50) if paying the full fee has caused, or is likely to cause, severe financial hardship. You need to request the reduction with supporting evidence before the deadline.
- Refund if you succeed: 50% of the fee is generally refunded if the ART sets aside or remits the decision.
- Protection decisions: no fee is paid when you apply. The $2,293 fee is only payable if the review is unsuccessful.
- Bridging visa decisions in detention: no fee applies to review of a bridging visa decision that resulted in a person being held in immigration detention.
Most review applications must be lodged within 28 days of being notified of the decision, and the ART cannot extend this time. Read more about the review process on our ART review page, and your options after a refusal on our appeals and review page.
