State and territory requirements

Each state and territory has its own list of occupations, requirements and processes you must follow, and these lists usually change at the start of each program year in July. Read more about how Australian states and territories nominate applicants.

Which occupation list applies to you?
  • Skilled Independent (189): your occupation must be on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL).
  • Skilled Nominated (190) and Skilled Work Regional (491): your occupation must be on the relevant skilled list and on the nominating state or territory’s own list.
  • Skills in Demand (482) core skills stream and Employer Nomination (186) direct entry stream: your occupation must be on the Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL).
  • Regional employer sponsored (494): your occupation must be on the regional occupation lists.

Check your occupation on our Skilled Occupation List 2026 page, then test your eligibility with the PR points calculator or a visa options assessment.

Where an occupation code has been changed as part of the update to the newer ANZSCO version, will skills assessments approved under to previous ANZSCO number still be valid?

In most cases, yes.

The Department has indicated that applicants should not be disadvantaged by ANZSCO updates. A valid skills assessment issued under a previous ANZSCO code will generally continue to be accepted where the occupation has been reclassified or renumbered.
