As the name suggest, conference and event organisers organise and coordinate services for events, functions, conferences, festivals, shows and concerts. Studying Event Management in Australia: What the Course Covers

Event management courses teach you how to plan, market and run events such as conferences, exhibitions, festivals, concerts, sporting events, weddings and corporate functions. You learn event concept development, budgeting and financial management, venue and supplier selection, contracts, marketing and sponsorship, logistics and production schedules, on site operations, staging and audiovisual coordination, risk management, crowd safety and permits, and post event evaluation. Many courses include practical work on real events.

Study Pathways

Students commonly study a Diploma and then an Advanced Diploma of Event Management, and some continue into a bachelor degree in event, tourism or hospitality management with credit. Event Management Study FAQs

Conference and Event Organiser (149311) is on the STSOL but is not on the Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL) as at October 2026. This means it cannot be used for the 482 Core Skills stream or the 186 Direct Entry stream, although some states may still nominate it for 190 or 491 visas.

Generally no. The 485 Post-Vocational Education Work stream requires an MLTSSL occupation, and Conference and Event Organiser is on the STSOL. A bachelor degree may make you eligible for the Post-Higher Education Work stream.

Organisation, budgeting, communication and problem solving under pressure, plus practical experience. Volunteering and part time work at events during your studies can make a big difference.

Event organisers do not usually need a personal licence, but events often need permits from the local council, liquor licences if alcohol is sold, food permits and crowd management or safety plans. Staff who serve alcohol need a Responsible Service of Alcohol certificate. Good event courses teach you how to plan for these approvals.
