Australia’s immigration system is a dual intent system, which allows foreign nationals to enter Australia as skilled workers, students, or visitors, while also seeking permanent resident status based on skilled work, business, or family ties.
Business Visitor Visas are generally valid for six months, but Temporary Activity Visas must be obtained and may be issued for a longer period in certain circumstances. Visa-exempt nationals are required to obtain electronic travel authority (eTA).
One main work visa is the Intracompany Transfer under the TSS 482 visa. The validity of this visa depends on the foreign national’s position and is granted for up to 4 years and is renewable. Depending on the occupation they may have a path to permanent residency through the 186 visa. There is no labour market testing requirement for this category. Dependent family members can accompany a foreign national under this category including unmarried same- or opposite-sex partners if they have been cohabitating for at least one year before the application filing date.
