Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189) for Medical Professionals
This stream is for Points-tested skilled workers who are not sponsored by an employer or family member of nominated by a state or territory government. Skilled Nominated (subclass 190) and Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) (subclass 491) Visas for Medical Professionals
Unlike the 189 visa, both 190 and 491 visas require skilled workers to be nominated by a state or territory government. The main difference between these two visas is that the 491 visa is a temporary visa (5 year validity). Skilled workers will have a pathway to permanent residency once they live and work in regional area for 3 years. Australian Capital Territory
Subclass 190 – Canberra Resident Applicant
- Your occupation is on the ACT Critical Skills List below – Medical Professionals List
- Must be living in Canberra for the last 6 months and continue until the date of invitation
- Must be working in Canberra for at least 6 months (min. 35 hours per week)
- Have ‘Proficient’ or ‘Superior’ English
Subclass 190 – Overseas Applicant
- Your occupation is on the ACT Critical Skills List below – Medical Professionals List
- Must be living overseas for at least 12 months
- Must have a job offer in your nominated occupation from a medium to a large Australian enterprise (50+ employees). Your offered position must be located in Canberra and be available for at least 2 years
- Have ‘Proficient’ or ‘Superior’ English
Subclass 491 – Canberra Resident Applicant
- Your occupation is on the ACT Critical Skills List below – Medical Professionals List
- Must be living in Canberra for the last 3 months and continue until the date of invitation
- Must be working in Canberra for at least 3 months (min. 20 hours per week)
- Have ‘Proficient’ or ‘Superior’ English
Subclass 491 – Overseas Applicant
- Your occupation is on the ACT Critical Skills List below – Medical Professionals List
- Must be living overseas for at least 12 months
- Must be working full-time in your nominated occupation for the last 12 months
- Have ‘Proficient’ or ‘Superior’ English
