Where do Skilled migrants to Australia come from?

Australia’s skilled visas including SC 189 Skilled Independent Visa and SC 190 Skilled Nominated Visa allow skilled workers to live and work in Australia as permanent residents. The Department of Home Affairs published the top source countries where SC 189 Visa and SC 190 Visa migrants come from during the 2018-19 period.

Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189)

The applicants who were granted Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189) came mainly from India, followed by New Zealand, China, UK, Philippines, and Pakistan. Whilst during the same period, New Zealand, India, UK, Philippines, Pakistan and China have a higher refusal rate compared to other countries.

Subclass 190 Skilled Nominated visa

The top countries where applicants were granted SC 190 in the 2018-19 period include India, China, UK, Philippines, and Pakistan.  More than 6000 Indian citizens were granted a SC 190 visa. On the other hand, India had the highest visa refusals followed by Nigeria, China, Pakistan, Nepal, and Iran.
