The Office of the Migration Agents Registration Authority (OMARA) keeps a public register of registered migration agents (RMAs), the professionals it regulates. You can use it to check whether a person is registered to give immigration assistance in Australia.
- Migration agents must be registered with OMARA to give immigration assistance in Australia.
- Since March 2021, Australian lawyers who hold an unrestricted legal practising certificate can give immigration legal assistance without registering with OMARA.

Immigration and citizenship representatives:
- explain and give advice on your immigration or citizenship options
- help you choose the best immigration pathway for you
- complete, guide and submit your immigration or citizenship application
- communicate with the Department of Home Affairs on your behalf
- represent you in an immigration or citizenship application or hearing
Like other professional regulators, OMARA carries out its role by:
- setting the registration requirements for people who want to become migration agents
- overseeing their continuing professional development and conduct
- registering migration agents
- receiving and investigating complaints
- taking disciplinary action against agents who do not meet the Code of Conduct.
