Transitional arrangements for 489 to 491 visa and 187 to 494 visa

In preparation to the introduction of the new Skilled Regional visas in November, the Immigration department has announced further details on the implementation dates for the 491 and 494 visas, and transitional arrangements for Subclass 489 and RSMS 187 visas.

Transitional arrangements:
  • No new RSMS 187 Direct Entry applications will be able to be lodged from 16 November 2019
  • RSMS 187 TRT applications will only be able to be lodged if the nominee is either:
    • a transitional 457 visa worker, or
    • a transitional 482 visa worker

RSMS nominations lodged before 16 November 2019 in the below circumstances are taken to be withdrawn on 16 November 2019:

  • nomination has not been approved or refused before 16 November 2019; and
  • nominee is not a transitional 457 worker or a transitional 482 worker; and
  • nominee has not lodged a 187 visa application before 16 November 2019
