Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189) for Medical Professionals
This stream is for Points-tested skilled workers who are not sponsored by an employer or family member of nominated by a state or territory government. Skilled Nominated (subclass 190) and Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) (subclass 491) Visas for Medical Professionals
Unlike the 189 visa, both 190 and 491 visas require skilled workers to be nominated by a state or territory government. The main difference between these two visas is that the 491 visa is a temporary visa (5 year validity). Skilled workers will have a pathway to permanent residency once they live and work in regional area for 3 years. Northern Territory
Subclass 190 – Skilled Nominated Visa
- You must be under 45 years of age
- You need a skills assessment
- You must meet the minimum English language requirement i.e. IETLS 6.0 or higher unless otherwise specified
- You must have 65 points or higher on the Skilled Migration Points Test
- You must have an occupation on the Australian Government’s list of eligible skilled occupations
- You require a nomination from the Northern Territory Government
- If you are nominated, you will be expected to live and work in the Northern Territory for at least three years from the visa grant
Subclass 491 – Skilled Work Regional Provisional Visa
- You must be under 45 years of age
- You need a skills assessment
- You must meet the minimum English language requirement i.e. IETLS 6.0 or higher unless otherwise specified
- You must have 65 points or higher on the Skilled Migration Points Test
- You must have an occupation on the Australian Government’s list of eligible skilled occupationsNT
- You require a nomination from the Northern Territory Government or an eligible family member
- If you are successful, you will be permitted to live, work and study in a regional area for five years
- If you are nominated by the NT Government, you are expected to live, work and study in the NT for at least 3 years prior to qualifying for the pathway to permanent residency
